Damn.

I'm thinking about picking up Endymion.

My current FG wishlist:

Bumba - a Bushongo creator deity who created all of existence by vomiting it up. I like to think that sometimes, after he's had a little too much to drink, he spews up little miniature people into the toilet.

Cloacina - goddess of the Roman sewers. Bet she lives below New York City with the mythical sewer gators.

Sterquilinus - Roman god of POO fertilisation. His name literally means "manure". Poo god!

Koalemos - Greek personification of stupidity and foolishness. How much do you love that they have one of those?

Mythology is fun.

Second Choice PB meme

This was tougher than I thought it would be. Some of my PB choices, like Atropos and Momus, were literally the first faces that came to mind when I was apping the characters and I've never seen them as anybody else. Hell, I was indecisive enough when it came to choosing their actual PBs! But here it is.

Sometimes I miss panfandom RP. I know the good multifandom games can be few and far between; it's been a long time since I've seen one that hasn't had a premise that went somewhere along the times of "your favourite characters, all together in a magical hotel/prison/spaceship/fairyland! FOR THE LULZ AND/OR SEXXORS!" But when you actually manage to find yourself a game that's interested in character development and storyline progression, that can be awesome. And where else are you going to get the chance to play an obscure fandom character like Dan Rydell or Professor Arturo?

I still regret not saving any of the logs from my old panfandom games. I'd love to read back over some of those threads. Like Jed Bartlet's conversations-slash-arguments with Hawkeye. (I think Jed may have been my favourite character to play. He's such a nerd. <3) And poor Danny and his myriad of daddy issues and self-esteem problems. (Oh hell, I loved him, too. Equal favourites, then.) And Josh's near-breakdown, which unhelpfully ended up being followed by an encounter with his Studio 60 doppelganger. And that one random encounter than ended up spinning off into an unexpectedly sweet Dan/Gwen story arc.

[/nostalgia]

In other news, TGYH is back! Oh Working Dog team, how I love you. <3

May. 24th, 2009

OMG YOU GUYS. GUESS WHAT I GOT. I didn't even know they were going to release it in Australia! Eeeeee it's so awesome. There are cast and crew commentaries and gag reels and interviews and every single episode ever and WIN.

Sports Night, for anybody who doesn't know, is like-- Okay, imagine The West Wing, except instead of the White House all of the characters work on a late night sports show. Or, if you don't know The West Wing... hm... Okay, imagine THE BEST SHOW EVER...

It makes me a bit nostalgic for when I used to RP Dan. Oh, Danny. He was such a dorky bundle of neuroses. I'd love to throw him into another panfandom game sometime, when my RP time isn't completely swallowed up by FG.

I also bought Micallef in a Box. Because apparently winning twenty or so comedy DVDs last months wasn't enough lol-age for me. (Did I mention that?! zomg I won something! I submitted a review for a comedy festival show to The Age and I won a bundle of DVDs and tickets to the Kransky Sisters' show and it was AWESOME.)

I may have ingested too much sugar tonight.

Apr. 23rd, 2009

fucking fuck fuck now my internet is broken.

Can still use it but everything's loading at sub-dialup speeds which means RP-wise I'll probably be out of action until May 1. Will be able to keep on top of modly things again after this weekend though, when essays are out of the way.

I'm sorry, this just really isn't my week. I don't mean to dump my issues on anyone, I've just- my grandad has just been moved to palliative care and he's dying and I'm finding it really hard to deal with. And on top of that I'm way behind on these stupid fucking essays, and now my internet connection is screwing with me too and I'm feeling really shitty about myself at the moment.

Apr. 19th, 2009

So I feel kind of shitty for having to say this again, but I feel like I need to apologise for my slowness with threading. I've been out pretty much every night of the week at comedy festival shows which, coupled with a pair of looming essay deadlines, has left me with pretty much zero RP time.

The good news is, comedy fest ends next Sunday, by which point I should (hopefully) have both essays finished and submitted, too. So after that I'll have much more energy to commit to the game. Bad news is, until then I'm completely snowed under... these essays are absolutely killing me. Still, one week!

And if I'm allowed just one moment of fangirling... I saw one of the Good News Week tapings today! The show's hosted by Paul McDermott (Azazel's PB, and an evilly funny man), who may or may not have mimed giving Jason Byrne a blowjob at one point. Well, I assume he was miming; it's not like I could see what was going on behind the desk. The show goes to air Monday night. I'm really curious to see what they keep in (the episodes are an hour long - including ads - and the taping went for over two hours!). Also to see if I can see myself in the audience - I was in the fourth row, but the arrangement of the seats was such that nobody was sitting in front of me. :D

I also saw Tim Minchin's show, "Ready For This?", which was absolutely fantastic. And they had a signing afterwards, so not only did I get a copy of his new CD, but I also got to say hi to Tim and get it signed, which was kickass.

But yeah I think that's enough half-asleep rambling. So to reiterate - haven't forgotten everyone, just really caught up in RL and will be for the next week. I'm trying to keep up with modly things, though, and I always answer my emails if there's any need to contact me.

But right now, sleep is on the agenda. 'niiiiight.

Apr. 9th, 2009

Have now seen:
- Sammy J: 1999 (hilarious, twisted, exactly the kind of slick show I've come to expect from Sammy)
- Claire Hooper: Forget Your Troubles - C'mon Get Hoopsy (despite criticisms of not being polished enough, I found her thoroughly wonderful)
- Julia Morris: Don't You Know Who I Used To Be? (not as strong as her regular stand-up, but still glorious, classic J-Mo)
- Sarah Millican's Not Nice (dirty, devious and thoroughly delightful, hard to believe she's been at this for so short a time)
- Josh Thomas: More Josh Than You Can Handle (Josh is awesome. Seemed to have a couple of jitters, but hilarious regardless)
- Felicity Ward's Ugly As A Child Variety Show (completely demented and utterly hilarious for it; totally deserving of all the praise it's getting)

Would recommend all of the same, especially Felicity and Sammy. <3

And over the Easter weekend I'm seeing:
- Mark Watson: All the Thoughts I've Had Since I Was Born (saw him on a whim one Tightarse Tuesday last year, <3 ensued)
- Stephen K. Amos: Find the Funny (he's a bit of a serial reuser of jokes, but they're so funny and his delivery's so good that he can make it work. Plus my mate who I'm going with hasn't seen him, so that'll be fun)
- Adam Hills: Inflatable (hands down my favourite comedian and I've heard great things about the new show. So excited!)
- The Great Debate (six comedians debating a nonsensical issue - need I say more? Plus, AZAZEL Paul McDermott often captains one of the two teams, heeee)

Might check out Dave Bloustien, too; I've had a few people recommend him to me and the description of the show sounds cool.

...so yeah, there's part of the reason I haven't been as active threading as I'd like (since I usually post in the evening, which is when all the comedy festival shows are on. But I'm getting back into the routine! I'm quite proud of myself, I just put up that Clotho/Theon thread I've been meaning to post (because yes, I like to torture my pups a little bit) and I've got threads for Mania and Big Tobacco mostly written up.

I realise this has been a completely rambling pointless post, but that by definition is pretty much the entire content of this journal, so.

d'awwww my puppy is sleeping on my bed.

Oh hey, so you know those boat people from back in 2001? The ones who tried to smuggle themselves into Australia by boat in order to seek asylum as refugees? The ones the Howard government claimed, despite having knowledge to the contrary, were threatening to throw their children overboard to wrangle entry into the country, when in fact their boat was sinking? The ones who were parcelled off into detention centres on islands like Nauru, and either granted asylum by New Zealand or sent back to where they'd come from? The ones the government demonised and subsequently used to justify a disgusting crackdown on asylum seekers, all of which contributed significantly both to the government's popularity and 2001 election victory?

Yeah, turns out they were for real. Four have been granted refugee status after a second perilous journey to Australia. At least eleven more are known to have been killed by the Taliban after they were sent back to Afghanistan.

I've got no words. I'm just... absolutely sickened.

I'm gonna win the Rock Eisteddfod, that's how I'm gonna win her hand!

Internet crushing on Athena? And making her a mix tape? XDDDDD Now every time I see those two together I just get this Tripod song in my head. (Oh, Tripod. You are without a doubt my favourite geeky musical comedy trio. <3)

So, there's my random thought for the wee hours.

And while I'm at it: TIM. Because no matter how many times I see him perform this poem, it still has me pissing myself laughing. And also I'm starting to get just a little gleeful at getting to see his show next month.

Feb. 27th, 2009

HOOOOOOLY SHIT I took a few days off updating the mega-massive-PANTHEON-GO-BOOM plot summary and today I had to flick back to skip=180 on the flist to update on all the action. I must have spent over an hour getting the summary up to date. *passes out*

Not that I'm not enjoying the hell out of this plot, but jeeeeesus. Just when I thought everything was going to slow down! XD

...and I may just have another niggling concept in my head for another character. BAD JESS. BAD.

Feb. 14th, 2009

Comedy Festival website, why must you taunt me so?

At the moment, I'm definitely going to see Adam Hills, Stephen K Amos, Mark Watson, Tim Minchin and the Great Debate.

I'll most likely see Claire Hooper, because I've really enjoyed the bits of her stand-up I've seen and her weekly spot on The Sideshow was always my favourite bit. Julia Morris is looking very tempting - I saw her show last year and she was fantastic. And I heard some really good reviews of Felicity Ward's show during the Melbourne Fringe (where I think it won an award?). Janeane Garofalo is also coming out for the first couple of weeks, so I was kind of thinking about seeing her show. (Who says girls can't bring the funny?)

I really like Danny Bhoy and Arj Barker, but I did see Arj's show last year. So I'm not so sure if I'll see either of them. David O'Doherty is delightful, and he's apparently doing a weekend show with fellow Irish comedian Maeve Higgins in addition to his solo show. Sammy J is always funny, and I've kind of been half won over by the title of his new show (1999: The Wonder Years Meets Wolf Creek). But I'm definitely going to try and get tickets for the Good News Week taping.

Other shows that looked kind of interesting:
- Howard the Musical (I'll wait for the reviews... I'm slightly skeptical as to whether they can do a better job of satirising John Howard in musical form than has already been done in Keating! The Musical, which I adored, but if it's any good I'd be all for checking it out.)
- Melbourne Model: The Musical (Caught my eye purely out of my loathing for the Melbourne Model, and the fact that I'm in the student union means cheap tickets. But it could well be some lame Socialist Alternative agenda-driven crap, I dunno.)
- Randy's Postcards From Purgatory (Puppeteer Heath McIvor's first solo comedy show - he's been hilarious in his collaborations with Sammy J, particularly in the Forest of Dreams, so I'm kind of interested.)

SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS I WILL BE BROKE BY THE END OF APRIL.

Dec. 30th, 2008

Bah. My net doesn't reset till January 1, so for the last week I've been stuck with awful, barely-functioning dialup speed. So while I wait for my pages to load, here is a meme.

This is the list of the top 100 grossing movies of all time. Bold what you've seen.

...I know, I did it on LJ. But it's such time-wasting fun!

Put your iTunes collection on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

Candle Dies on a Bedroom Table

I'm on a small, grey smudge of a planet
The sun is shining, it's a lovely day
The distant future, the year 2000
Lay my bones at the feet of the ministry

In the rain
Fetchez la vache!
Well I wake up in the morning at 11:47 and I can't believe I have to face the horror of another fucking day
Shut out, pimpled and angry

Everyone's a little bit unsatisfied
You lie awake at night
Pretty soon you'll be able to remember her
Angels soaring through the air

I've heard there was a secret chord
One hand on this wily comet
I typed my own name into an internet search engine and all I got was boobs
We've got years ahead of us

It amuses me that there are about seven comedy songs in there and yet out of context at least half of them read as entirely serious lines (the "title" is actually from a Tripod song).

Nov. 22nd, 2008

It is insanely cold here at the moment. We're supposed to be a week away from summer, for crying out loud!

Trying to get [info]forgotten_gods rolling again. I'm really excited to be jumping back into the game. I feel bad for being away for so long, but I think I really needed the time away from RP, with all the RL stuff going down. And I'm on holidays now, so free time abounds!

Also, if you're in Melbourne and a fan of good comedy, you should really go see this. Not only is it featuring some fantastic comedians - including Alan Brough, Tripod, Wil Anderson, Frank Woodley, Charlie Pickering, and two of my favourite comics, Adam Hills and Paul McDermott - but it's also for a good cause. I've got my tickets!

And that's really all I've got to say. Looking back, this post probably wasn't warranted.

Sep. 8th, 2008

I read this yesterday. It made me lol a bit, especially as I've just appropriated Paul as a PB for Azazel at [info]forgotten_gods.

I lived in a flat where we would call upon the God of Hot Water. "Please, God, let there be a few minutes of heat before I freeze". The God of Hot Water always seemed to be deaf until we made a monetary sacrifice to one of his high priests, a plumber called Ron. There is the God of the Radio, who can torment or tantalise. The God of Let The Takeaway Be Open. We ask the God of the Car Park to find a space for us at the crowded shopping mall. For the little God of Money to plant coins at the back of the couch. For the God of the Street to leave something good in the skip. To the God of Washing to return the other sock. To the God of the Bank to make the ball-point work. To the God of Sleeping in on Sunday Morning to stop the person playing the French horn.

Jul. 9th, 2008

I have Sammy J's freaky Eddie Maguire song stuck in my head. It's somewhat disturbing.

Ooh. I'm going to see Adam Hills' standup show at the Athaeneum tomorrow night! Should be a lot of fun. Also, David Sedaris!!!!!!! is apparently going to be in Melbourne for the writers' festival so all in all, there should be no shortage of lols in my holidays.

And speaking of comedy! I just discovered that Working Dog have a new series premiering tonight! These are, for those who don't know, the same brilliant comic minds who brought this country The Late Show, The Castle, Frontline and Thank God You're Here (the awesome original one, not the shitty American ripoff). So them doing a comedy about the shady inner workings of the Prime Minister's office? WIN. We need some more good Australian political comedy since The Chaser degenerated from funny political satire (Following Howard around with the "Peter Costello Succession Express" bus? SO STUPID but it kills me every time) to cheap dickhead hijinks ("Hey, let's go shopping with pantyhose on our heads and see how people react!").

... I can't actually remember why I started writing this entry now.
